It can be hard to tell if you are bored or actually hungry. Sometimes, you may eat only because there are snacks laying around. Or you may wander into the kitchen and find yourself eating a meal. Boredom eating can become a habit, especially if you do not have a lot of work or activities on the go.
Let’s go over how you can stop eating when you’re bored.
Eat Enough During The Day
Typically, bored eating occurs in the evening. This is because after a long day, fatigue can be mistaken as hunger. One way to prevent this is to eat enough during the day. You can also time your meals so you eat every 3 hours. Keeping yourself occupied in the evening can also prevent any snacking.
Recognize When You’re Boredom Eating
There may be certain times when you tend to eat when bored. It could be when you are stressed with work or school, in the evening before bed, or when you are doing a tedious task. If you identify the times when you are boredom eating, then you can plan healthy snacks ahead of time. This way, you aren’t searching for a quick fix and will eat a filling, nutritious snack instead.
Practice Mindfulness
Understanding your body is one way to stop boredom eating. If you know when your body is actually hungry, then you will know when to eat. You may find that your stomach growls or maybe you get a headache when you are actually hungry. Once you know the signs that your body is telling you you’re hungry, then you can take steps to prevent boredom eating.
